HDV, 24 min loop, 2009
The title for this work is from the film director Robert Bressons book Notes for the Cinematographer where he uses a quote from Napoleon Bonaparte to describe how he related to the models of his films. The reference to filmic time is central as the moon entering and exiting the picture frame, marks the beginning and the closing of the narrative composed by the camera. The cameras motionless observation makes us aware of the earths rotation and the passing of time. The title also suggests the moon as a controlling force in our excistence.
